Where is your appointment?

Cascais. Hopefully family gets an appointment immediately around that time, but I am guessing will be long after they clear the primary applicants.

My turn :grimacing: I guess if the law goes sideways in Jan we can skip the appointment, book a swanky hotel room with the savings, and just enjoy Portugal! Shame this can’t be a purely celebratory moment, but it is what it is. Rosé-colored glasses askew and a bit dinged up, but still hanging on.

I finally heard from my lawyers, and I have a February 10th appointment in Lisbon. The email they forwarded from AIMA was dated this past Friday, and it sounds as though they have been struggling to get through all of the notifications. If anyone still hasn’t received word on their appointment, I’m sure that you have one and just need to wait until your lawyers get through the mountain of notifications.

I think the government is now issuing all these biometrics appointments so that applicants’ citizenship clock can start ticking quicker. It looks like it was delaying these appointments before to keep applicants away from being able to apply fir citizenship in exactly 5 years after application submission, but should the new law pass as is, then waiting 10 years plus a few months for GV approval is going to be the norm the government wants to establish.

Applied May 2025 and an appointment already. Now that is a story of success! We started in 2023 and have a Jan 2026 AIMA appointment for myself…my wife is still in the limbo stage.

Finally, get biometric appointment email from agent today. Applied in Jul 2025. April 2026 biometrics.

My agent said would expect AIMA to send out appointment of my family members in one or two week. Any one hear similar information from your lawyer or agent ?

I just have to say, this is so effing unethical. I hope we can find a way to sue the government.

Hi there. So the 10 years clock starts from the application date, biometric date or card issue date.

And what about kids, if by the mark of 10 years, they are not dependent anymore. They still can apply for permanent residency or citizenship? My son is 13 now

Appreciate if anyone has answers to above questions
Thanks

Card issue.

The kid issue is really unclear.

I heard a similar rumor. I hope it’s true. Look forward to seeing people confirm spouses and dependents are on the same day.

Our attorney said they are trying to get clarification about family member appointments

But arent changes to constitution only prospective. 10 years from card issuance means 12 years from now

I m willing to wait unfortunately because i have no other options, but if my kids dont make the cut because they age out, that defeat the purpose since we went into this program for mainly the kids.

What is the current law with kids. If they are not dependent on the fifth year from card issuance, they are out. Thanks

Please take this information with the understanding I have no personal knowledge of the current law other than what I’ve read others post here.

My understanding was your kid could ride your application until the latter of: (1) them turning 18, or (2) when they stop being financially dependent on you. With respect to the latter, it appeared that supporting them in their education (e.g. if they went to university) qualified them as “dependent.” So, if they went to university until 22, they would be able to apply until then.

Again, I am no expert. I encourage you to ask your attorney once the dust settles on the law and the (hopeful) referral to the Constitutional Court.

Thanks a lot, will check with the lawyer

Suggest also check again in 4-6 months time after the Nationality Law changes have settled (if they have). Right now the Government’s proposal is absolutely retroactive, unless you’ve got your 5 years and have already submitted your Nationality application.

…but the bill still needs to go by the President, and hopefully he punts it to the Tribunal Constitucional and they tear it apart for how “inconstitucional” it is.

Good timeline of the next ~5 weeks here:

In our case, we applied on September 2023 and reapplied in March 2025 and just got an appointment in June 2026!!! I find it really crazy!

Of course, this is for the main applicant only. Our lawyer said the dependent will be informed very soon.

I applied as main applicant with my husband and dependent daughter in January 2025, paid at the time submitted.
I just received notice for Biometrics in March, but only for primary applicant.
My sister and her family applied and paid in May 2025, and just received notice for a Feb biometrics appt- primary applic only.

Biometrics isnt, but date of actual residency permit may be..
