Assuming the current cost of 6000 euro plus lawyer and applications fees, that’s roughly $9200 on top of the flight cost, let’s just say $10,500 total.
Assuming you need to do it 3 times currently - that’s $33,000
Am I correct that in case we need to wait for a citizenship for much longer, we’ll have to do a renewal at least 5 times so the total cost goes up by another $22,000 at least?
Also you’ll need to travel to Portugal at least 5 times for a 2 week period every other year to maintain your residency status?
You are required to keep your residence valid while citizenship application is being processed. Right now, that’s probably 3 years of processing time, so it’s another 2 renewals (one if you’ve switched to PR). Of course, there’s about to be a 5 year period where no one is eligible for citizenship, so who knows what the wait will be like in 10 years.
Renewals are half the initial cost of the permit. Also, if you invested in an extinguished GV option like real estate, you are converted to a hybrid D2 visa at renewal. Those are valid for 3 years and cost under 200 Euros to renew.
