WIKI: HOW-TO: Golden Visa Renewal Mega Thread (January 2025 →)

I’ve been sending them emails since 2-3 weeks ago and so far haven’t heard back from them. Fingers crossed things will get better for us. Did you include your passport info and residence permit info in the email too?

Other than my residence card number, I didn’t include anything else.

86 agency workers responsible for assessing documents and making decisions on residence permits.

Doesn’t sound like a lot, but if they all process 20 applications per day, they could get on top of the residency backlog in a few months.

Finally, excellent news!!!

AIMA has made available the option to request an appointment to renew the ARI on the website https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form

The bad news is that every attempt I made to submit it gave me an error with the following message: “The type of residence permit indicated does not correspond to the ARI process”.

When you submit your request, please let us know here on the forum whether you were able to apply or whether you received the same error message.

Progress.
Yes, it worked for me. I was able to proceed past this screen.
But based on the message on following screen, it seems like a request for in person appointment.

For me, the error message appeared after filling out the entire form with the requested attachments.

Give it a few days. The team is probably testing it on production but had to cut things short because tomorrow is a holiday and they forgot to disable it. Once they load the permit numbers into the database, it should register correctly.

Or not, but that’s as good a guess as any.

I thought the new process was for lawyers to do it, with no biometric appointment needed?

You mean this bit from Prime Legal, posted in the ‘new process’ thread a few days ago? Perhaps this new form is meant for lawyers?

  1. ARI renewals will now be done by Lawyer, by scheduling an appointment on the portal that will be open for this purpose soon. It shall come into effect by the end of this month. Clients do not need to come in person if their biometric data in AIMA system is valid (dully collected in the previous 5 years with authorization for use) – we must anticipate system failure in several cases;

Yes exactly this.

The caveat is that’s only if your last biometric was less than 5 years before. So realistically you’d probably need to give biometrics for every 2nd renewal.

I guess if they actually streamline things and let you get GV PR quickly after 5 years like you’re supposed to, you’d never really need a renewal beyond the 2nd one. But that’s a big if.

And I never found out what happens to family reunification if you switch to GV PR.

Has anyone had any luck with this form yet?

By October 15, all [immigrants with resident cards] will have received a renewal email or will have registered on the platform,” said the same source, highlighting that, in cases where passports and biometric cards are up to date, this procedure will be online.

Government extends decree-law that makes documents valid until October 15

I was able to fill everything and submit the form - at which point I got a message saying along the lines of - Business conditions have not been met. The referred card is not a valid card for ARI. - I have a GV through real estate, so it looks like it is not permitting the GV-turned-D7 to use this process?

Same…unable to beat that message…

Today, one of my friends got confirmation from their lawyers that AIMA responded to their enquiry and that the fees for property investment is 181,50€ + 83,90€.

I sent all files with this message: “Pedido submetido com sucesso. Brevemente entraremos em contacto para o endereço de e-mail indicado.”
However, I do not yet have a lawyer hired for the renewal process. Instead of a Power of Attorney, I sent a statement in Portuguese stating that I will do it on my own. If AIMA refuses, I will hire a lawyer.

Hi Leonardo, do you have a real estate GV or another kind, like funds investment?
