Thx for this info - so no lawsuit? We applied in July 2023, updated docs in Feb 2025 and have heard nothing. Lawyers are IAS who don’t have any advice for when we might finally hear something and can only suggest filing a lawsuit, but given how many of those are pending I’m not sure that will help at this point

If you didn’t file a lawsuit, this is particularly useful data. My initial application was March 2023, but my attorneys didn’t refresh the documents until April of this year, suggesting that AIMA may be factoring refresh date when scheduling appointments.

I did file lawsuit, but never heard back from my attorney.
Only thing additional done, sending emails to AIMA and some in person visits as well

How did you do the in person visits to AIMA?

my family moved to Portugal last year , so visiting Portugal frequently on Schengen visa and ensuring each time to visit AIMA .

You think the in person visits helped? I might go knock at their door too…

Was anyone able to overcome AIMA’s portal error in uploading dependant’s updated documents? We are a family and our lawyer was only able to upload main applicant’s updated documents last January. I wonder if dependats would be included when we get our appointment. Any suggestions?

Do they respond to emails?

for me once, they shared appointment based on follow ups

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask but has anyone been able to Reschedule an appointment for renewal of residency cards?? I have several clients that I represent here in Portugal (I’m not a lawyer, just rep) and we requested renewal appointments and got 7 out of the 10 appointments all for the same day in completely different parts of the country. There is no way I can be at all of them. How can I go about rescheduling? There is a calendar icon on the portal but the drop down windows for month and day are blank. No way to fill it out. Any suggestions??

I think you’re going to have to contract out to some other reps. If they have the same problem but on different days you can do some swapping/rebalancing

If you cancel the appointment it could be years before they give you another one

So, did you just show up at AIMA offices and ask to speak to someone? In Lisbon or elsewhere?

Please don’t reschedule your clients, they could get lost in the abyss. Get coworkers/colleagues/outsource.

i think appointment not received because of visiting AIMA.
It may be because of keep on sending email to them.

Yes and each person we speak to in different offices said they do not have the capability to set appointments.

This is a good idea, Does anyone know if you are required to have to show proof of having a law certificate/card to be able to represent them or can anyone go to the appointment ie: assistant/secretary with just a Power of Attorney??

That sounds like a question for a lawyer … I would guess you just need a separate power of attorney specific to the client / representative pairing. But I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know if your clients can sign some type of power of attorney just with you that allows you to delegate to another representative…

I was at AIMA and you do not need to be a lawyer to represent someone at AIMA for the renewals. You only need to have a valid certified Power of Attorney.
