I am EU Irish and live in Portugal with American born daughter ( Florida) who has to get this apostilla on her birth certificate , it seems hellish complex and expensive, did anybody suffer the same problem ?
It should not be complicated. You ask the town office to issue a birth certificate with recent date (Be sure to tell them you are going to apostille it). Then you mail it in to the secretary of state for florida with a small fee.

We used a Us company to apostille a document
Express apostille. Loaded documents yesterday and they are off to attorney in Portugal today.
