Can a Portal das Finanças password be sent abroad?

Hi all!

I have a question regarding the NIF process. I am going to Portugal, and using the occasion to kickstart the process.
I have an appointment to get my NIF, in which I will register to a foreign address for now. The thing is, once I get my NIF, can I request the letter with the password from Portal das Finanças, to be sent to a foreign (EU) address?

I do hope you’re reading all the bad experiences many have had with the PT GV (e.g. here and here), but to answer your question…

Having just logged into Finanças to pay my property taxes today, yes when we got our NIFs* the portal access code was posted to our UK address (don’t think we had any choice).

*that was 3 years ago, and we’re still waiting for our GV approval and cards :sob:

I do not need visa, and my move is unrelated to this type of topics, so hopefully I will be fine on that side haha!
But good to hear that they can send it abroad, would you actually remember ± how long it took to reach UK?

3 years is a long time ago (so much Portugal BS and disappointment since!), but I think it took about 2 months to get the portal code in the post. Christmas was in the middle of that, and nothing happens during that period.
