Same. I am hesitant to once again spend the time and money for another FBI check and apostille, when even our lawyer can’t confirm if we need a new one or not for the upcoming bio appointment.
Finally had three family members get appointments for Feb 2026 (3 separate dates!) after main renewed formally in June 2024. Of course, it can’t be all happy because a 4th family member remains in limbo without an appointment for some completely unclear reason.
Are these family member appointments for initial cards or for renewals?
Renewals thankfully!
How spread out are the appointments in February? In the same week or more spread out than that?
There is a specific thread for renewal appointments as opposed to new applicants and initial biometrics appointments. I think it’s this one:

my lawyer changed their mind and requested a new fbi background check
My lawyer just responded too. They said if I had gotten my prior FBI clearance (from July) apostilled within three months it would have been sufficient, but since I didn’t it is recommended to get a new one. I’m not sure they know for sure, but it seems best to cover one’s butt by getting a new one if you have time.
Are there any other main applicants still waiting to be scheduled for a biometric appointment?
Fees paid: July 2025
Not everyone has an appointment - there’s still a bit of randomness. My application was paid in early September and I have not gotten a biometric appointment.
My lawyer said in a recent email (December 2025) that no additional documents are required beyond what we submitted in January of this year.
Investment in 2022
Resubmission of docs in April 2025
Scheduled Biometrics Appt (only for Primary) in April 2026
Has anyone received information from their lawyers
on when appointments for family members might be expected? Our lawyer just gave us a single line respone - that the appointment is only for the primary applicant.
No for me. I think no one in this forum receives appointment for family.
Our lawyer said we didn’t need any updated documents, but we got the FBI check updated anyway as it had expired. Hoping since it is in English we don’t need to get it translated and the translation apostilled as well…
Biometrics in 3 weeks, and still have not got dependent’s appointment. Attorney is hopeful of getting dependent appointments on the same day, but not as confident as he was last month.
Travel plans need to be made almost immediately now. Deciding what to do - travel solo, or bring dependent anyway. Any advice or updates from others whose appointments may be even earlier?
Our attorneys said for the main applicant to come, and hoping for the dependent was just that, a hope. It is entirely at the discretion of AIMA, and their workload, as to whether they offer the dependent an appointment or not, and when (could be 2-3 days after the main applicant).
I would suggest weighing all the pros & cons of having your dependent go vs not.
For reference in our case, just the main applicant is going. Mainly due to the challenging schedule the dependent has, but also because hopefully there will be some clarity on the nationality law before we have to decide on whether to commit to paying the extra 6k in fees to continue with the dependent application.
Our family of 4 had accepted applications in May and then I got a biometrics appt on Jan 8 in Cascais. I bought refundable plane tickets for the other three but the optimism first shared by our lawyer has definitely turned over the past month. At first they were “certain” that the other three family members would have appts on the same day at the same location and that the lack of official appts was due to a technical issue. With just over two weeks to go, I’m not feeling very confident. Maybe there will be a XMAS miracle…
I have a biometrics appointment in Cascais as well, on Jan 13, only 1 dependent. We’re going together, and hopeful somehow we can both get our biometrics processed, it’s highly unlikely though.
Gosh good luck. I can’t drag my two children and husband for a maybe on January 8! Too disruptive
