That’s what the email said. Biometrics only if over 10 years since last biometrics for adults (5 years for minors). So I will not be attending in person.

So is the whole process done online or do you have to come to Portugal? Thanks

Thanks! So you received an email first telling you that you can use that AIMA portal?

Just clarifying because my lawyer has told me to wait for an email from AIMA. My card expired Feb 2025

The email says I do not need to be present since my biometrics are less than 10 years old. My lawyer with proper Power of Attorney can attend.

No I did not receive any email inviting me to use the AIMA portal, I discovered it on my own and completed it. I did not even receive an acknowledgment email after I completed the form. However, I have a very strong suspicion that completing that form did not matter (much like the resubmission of documents that 1000s of GV applicants had to do in Jan!), and people will receive the emails anyway.

You/your lawyer can complete it anyway just to be safe. Perhaps they already have on your behalf (as I know many lawyers have), which is why they are asking you to expect an email. :man_shrugging:

Thanks for your feedback.

  1. When using the AIMA portal, did you provide the Power of Attorney of your lawyer?

  2. What is your investment method, if I may ask?

My residency permit expired in the same month as you. I just filled out the form using the passport scan, and both sides of the Residence permit (Front/Back)

Since my lawyer is not responding to my question in the last week, I decided to do the submission without the Power of Attorney. I’m a real estate investor.

I’m glad to see there’s a possibility to renew the residency without showing up in person! That’s a big deal…

  1. Yes I did. I asked them to send me a scan of my POA
  2. Real Estate

I would advise you to send the documents they have asked for. Moreover, the basis of not going in person to Portugal for the renewal is that there is someone with a POA who can represent you. If you don’t have any one with a valid POA, then you will have to go in person. That is to my best knowledge.

Here is the relevant portion of the email I received in both Portuguese and English. I am copy-pasting the English version.

“Furthermore, please be informed that for the purposes of the application for renewal of the residence permit for investment activity that you hold, considering that the biometric data was collected less than 10 years ago (adults)/5 years ago (minors) and that no subsequent doubts have been raised as to your identity, you may, if you wish, formalize the application at the aforementioned AIMA Agency through a legal representative, provided with a mandate with special powers for the act, and you are therefore exempt from appearing in person at this stage.”

Thank-you this is very helpful. Our cards have now expired over 6 months ago, I am hoping we get the renewal appointment soon.

Thank you Tandon!
My lawyer said I don’t need the Police record from my country for renewal but other lawyer said it is required. I am unclear, can anyone please clarify?

My lawyer has asked for it and I am arranging it.

Vikas Tandon

What other docs have they requested from you for the renewal (barring the police record which you alluded to)?

I seem to have a different scenario altogether. Earlier when I had tried a few weeks ago, the AIMA form said “business conditions not met”. Today I thought it’s been a few weeks and the system may have moved forward with changes, so I tried again. But now I got a message saying that my card is already linked to an in-person appointment at AIMA. But I haven’t heard about any appointment from AIMA or my lawyers. Anyone else faced this issue?

It could be the ‘contactenos’ form is now obsolete since they put up yet another ‘new portal’ on July 11th
