Congrats on the appointment, glad to see at least some traction. I refreshed our documents in February and was concerned about having to do yet another set of FBI checks (which is difficult and expensive to do from abroad) knowing they’d expire before we’d receive an appointment date. I was assured by my lawyer that the ones submitted for the refresh would still be accepted by AIMA at the (eventual) biometrics appt., but it now seems that my earlier hunch was likely correct… so it goes.
Yes, we were assured too that the upload would be final.
But now it isn’t.
Procedures do seem to vary by Attorney however, and also perhaps the upload being final was based on a faster appointment.
I just don’t know.
Is this your lawyer being cautious, or a specific requirement from AIMA when giving you an appointment?
If the latter, why not take a printout of the email and complain on the Yellow Book, etc.?
Just over 3 months.
I asked for an appointment to renew my GV on March 24. I got a response on May 9 for an appointment at AIMA - Alverca on Sep. 26. I made the request by email to geral@aima.gov.pt. I hope this helps.
Hi, when did you last card expire?
Hi - this thread is for people trying to get their first Biometrics appointment under the new 2025 process (see very first post)… so they wouldn’t even have cards yet
My card will expire on Sep. 4. My lawyer requested an appointment 1 week before I made a request. We both made our request to the same email address. Interestingly, she has not heard back yet. Thus, I don’t think that emails are being answered in chronological order and appointments that are being prioritized based on the expiration date of cards.
Congrats on the biometric. I refreshed my doc
On march 7 2025 and still waiting. I filed a lawsuit on oct 10 2024 still waiting😀
Which email do you have on AiMA portal, is it yours, your lawyer or both and to which email went the invitation for biometrics from AIMA
Thank you.
Hello, Has AIMA being able to to confirm appointment before the 90 day period?
We resubmitted all papers Early February and after more then 90 days, we have not gotten any news.
Anybody that updated documents in January have appointments by now?
Thank you
Yes, please see my post above.
However, documents have to be renewed due to time lapse.
FBI re-submission question:
I re-submitted all my documents in March 15, 2025.
My FBI documents were created over 90 days ago (Jan 7 and Jan 14 for my partner). Are you saying they will need to be re-done, again? Our lawyers (Prime Legal) have not notified us, and at this point we are just waiting for biometrics.
(First application Aug 2023. Sued AIMA July 2024. Re-submitted March 15 2025. No appointment yet.)
It is my understanding that people are obtaining fresh FBI reports, even under the new submission process, for their biometrics appointments if their appointment is not within 90 days of the submitted FBI report. Whether this is a requirement or people/their attorneys are being cautious is unclear to me.
I agree.
As mentioned earlier, we have definitely been told to obtain new background checks as our upcoming biometric appointment is more than 90 days since the uploading of refreshed documents.
Told by AIMA?
Or told by your lawyer out of precaution?
I have no contact with AIMA.
I have not questioned our lawyer about the motive for her instruction.
Just delighted to have an appointment to be honest, and being cautious about what will be demanded on the day and avoiding delay thereafter seems good counsel.
Having just been granted an appointment, I think a Yellow Book complaint would be inadvisable!
If getting another FBI check is the price to pay, on balance I will be paying it.
There is certainly no shame in taking the path of least resistance
Any chance you could confirm with your lawyer whether AIMA specifically required another refresh?
Do you think it is acceptable that you still need to refresh these docs at least once between the bios and the final approval?
My lawyers just confirmed that I do NOT need new FBI docs, as they were valid upon the date of re-submission.
From them: “There is no need to request new documentation at this stage. The documents you previously submitted were valid at the time of resubmission.”
