Recap:
So after Reading the article and all of the comments and questions that followed in subsequent years, I take it N26 is still ‘the’ bank for nomads who require a EUR account (perhaps USD and GBP accounts as well?). However, due to recent EU regulation, things have changed and one must now not only have an EU address where to send the card, but also physically be in the EU (or have a VPN at the time of syncing the bank account to the phone app) AND have a EU phone number.
I have a Latin American passport (
t) and I am currently debating whether to open a French-based(
) or German-based (
) N26 account (countries where this nomad lived before and finds herself returning to regularly). I wanted to compare perks and disadvantages in order to make an informed decision; however, the conclusions one arrives to from the info on the oficial N26 site are quite scanty:
In Germany
*one is able to request additional cards (not in France).
*one has 3 free withdrawals only in Germany, while in France the free withdrawals can be anywhere in the Eurozone.
Aside from that, the only other information I found is from this post ( thanks @tkrunning ! ):
*the German account comes with the possibility of investing
*one can get a Maestro Card
However, after Reading The [amazing] Ultimate Retirement Savings Guide for Expats & Nomads, I am left to wonder, how much of a perk this really is, as one could invest on ETFs as described in the guide which is the reason I would like to have an account in Euros in the first place.
Other info came from two nomadgaters who reported having issues with their French-based N29 accounts
: (on having a non-operational savings account and about the origin of the first transfer into the account –whether from another one of your own accounts or not). There was no follow up on this.
Though perhaps not such a great perk, I am also aware that one is able to deposit cash in Germany but I’m not sure that would be posible in France (or in other countries).
I will be opening my account soon-ish and vaguita
would defintely be much thankful for any additional information on perks and/or disadvantages that come with where the account is registered.
