“AIMA fees for the day of the appointment are €6.179,40. Please note that this amount must be paid via a Portuguese bank card, as foreign cards are not accepted.”
Please can someone who already had appointment , advise me on above.
me and my spouse both paid with U.S. credit cards, with Apple Pay no less, even in Portimão, a small town with a small AIMA office. Theres a whole thread with people talking about their payment experiences iirc actually
I did my biometric in Lisbon in October. I transferred the amount to my lawyers a few weeks before the appointment. They paid through their corporate account. I didnt want any last minute issues.
My husband as primary has the biometrics in Feb. I don’t have an appt yet but my attorney said I will need that once my appt gets scheduled. If I decide to go with him in Feb in the hopes they do my biometrics too, I will need an apostilled marriage cert.
Thank you for the information Jennifer. My husband is also the primary and has an appointment in January. Unfortunately it is the one day he cannot go due to a business meeting in NY that is required for his job. Our attorney has sent two messages to AIMA with proof his job depends on him being there, but we have gotten no response. I guess we will see. Please keep us posted if AIMA lets you do the biometric appointment with your husband, just in case we do get rescheduled. Fingers crossed. This has been some journey.
Double check they’re using the new system below, not just sending emails to the ‘geral’ email black hole. Yes obvious I know, but PT lawyers can be inept.
Totally understand where you are coming from. My husband is in a higher position in the company, so unfortunately this is mandatory once a year. He will be out of a job if he does not attend. We provided a letter from the CEO and a flight receipt for those days to our attorney. I will see if my attorney is using the new AIMA complaint channel that PTBound suggested. My guess is that she did not.
I m sorry . I m new to this forum . I have received .my biometric appointment for april 2026. I .need to know if i can enter through schengen visa of any other country. Thanks
Yes it doesnt matter what country issued your schengen visa.
For a single entry visa, you might want to ensure your trip is prinarily to the country that issuued the visa and the Portugal trip is part of your journey. For example , if France issued your visa , you can certainly enter via France and spend most of your trip in France. then just fly to portugal and show the boarding passes for Portugal ad proof of entry into national territory.
Update: We, obviously, heard nothing back from AIMA before our biometrics appointment was scheduled last week. Our attorney went to the appointment and showed all supporting documents, emails send to AIMA, etc as to why my husband could not make the appointment. AIMA took the documentation and said they would be in touch. So we wait. Honestly with everything going on politically in Portugal, maybe it’s for the best. We made our purchase the end of 2022 and since then it’s just been hopes up/hopes down. I will send an update if they ever reschedule his biometrics appointment. Good luck everyone!
My husband had a similar situation, albeit he was dependent and it was in 2023. After he missed the appointment his application appeared to fall into a black hole. Lawyers were chasing, we heard nothing for about 4 months. Then our infant daughter was invited for her biometrics. Our lawyers emailed again, telling SEF (as was) that our baby couldn’t travel alone so my husband needed to attend, might as well do his biometrics at the same time. About 2 weeks before our daughter’s appointment my husband got an invite for the same time. Honestly it was probably luck that someone helpful happened to read the email…
Hi Selina, thank you for the response. At least that is a bit encouraging. We may have to wait for my biometrics appointment and have hubby come with me. I know there are several people on here attempting to do the same when the primary attends their biometrics to also bring their family. I guess I will know more after we see how that goes.
