Welcome! I recently joined also. My husband and I are from Michigan and looking to retire and spend part of the year in Portugal. Where in the US are you from?
We will be in Portimoa Portugal for the holidays and wondering where the Expat community haunts are in the area. Would love to hear from others on this.
Newbie here from US → Colombia in January, 2020, I’m moving there for financial reasons and to start over in life at 66 yrs of age. (But young at heart) Seeking friends in Barranquilla and information about the area. Willing to talk with anyone. I am planning on starting a business consulting company there. I also have a couple partners to help with opening Spanish/English classes and tutorials for students.
We will start with a Hostel to be rented by the hour or longer. There is a great need for such a shady/fun place.
I’m Wyle, a residential property developer from London UK, I made my first trip to beautiful Lisboa last week in search of a possible second home once we Brexit
I plan to work remotely in the near future so I’m currently exploring, looking at various cities.
Some of my favourite so far are, Barcelona, Paris, New York and newly added Lisboa.
Vegan, left-leaning, progressive liberal and europhile, UK-based (we do exist).
Massively unhappy about imminent withdrawal of UK from EU and associated loss of EU citizenship and am plotting ways to rectify my situation (any handy hints welcome!)
I try to spend time in Italy, Spain and France and want to explore more of the globe.
Love jazz (bebop/nu), seaside, festivals and fireworks!
Currently reading way too much non-fiction (rather depressing) and will try to remedy this in 2020.
That’s me in a nutshell.
Hello all!
Thanks Thomas! I found “Nomad Gate” via your “The Ultimate Guide to the Portuguese Golden Visa” article - incredibly helpful, detailed and informative!
US based but considering EU alternatives for retirement.
Hello My name is Mirco and I am about to become a digital nomad … So excited about it … at the tender age of 53 … I am now writing from Bangalore but I will be moving soon To Portugal and make it my new home an spring board for my future travelling …
Grateful for finding this community … impressed by the quality and thouroughness of the information I have found o the Blog I have just joined this group.
So thanks and congrats to Thomas and greetings to everyone.
Happy emoticon are allowed … I am a emoticon enthusiast and my daughetr (27) always scolds me saying I use them to much …
My name is Anthony. Originally from Los Angeles, I left the US back in July and have voyaging around Europe since then. (I love it out here!) I cannot say enough about this journey and I’m so grateful to have found this community of like-minded travelers.
I run a marketing and content consultancy, I’m ethics and compliance professional, and I’ve written for a few magazines. Right now, my goal is to make my way around, find a place that feels like home, and settle there for longer-term. I found the Portuguese Golden Visa ultimate guide and that’s what led me here. Would love to explore it more and see what it leads to!
Other than that, I love a good book with a coffee, writing, meeting strangers, and wandering around cities, trying to get lost.
Looking forward to being a part of this community. Feel free to reach out!
Hi Thomas, this is Lok from India living in Abu Dhabi. It’s a pleasure to join this community. I’m a frequent traveller but not a Nomad. But still I allways try to find freedom from all kinds of borders like political border, financial border etc. Found your article on best banks for Nomads very useful but unfortunately all of the bank allows either US/EU or the operation is not supported in UAE. Looking for a good bank to have convenience in international travelling until cryptocurrency (btc) does take over.
Hello fellow nomads! My name is Karma, I am from Sweden. I started traveling as a digital nomad and long-distance hiker in 2016 and have been a full time nomad (hiker) since June 2019. At the moment I am hiking across the world together with my partner (Scott from New Zealand). We have sold everything that would not fit in our backpacks and started our journey from the North Cape in Norway this summer with the intention to walk all the way to New Zealand over the course of the next 5+ years or so. A few ferries involved of course, but largely it is a human-powered endeavor living out of a backpack in a tent. We have walked 4000+ km so far and love our life as nomadic explorers! Any other hikers here?
Happy new year!!

Wow @orchidkarma, that sounds amazing! Truly inspiring
It would be great to catch up in person at some point during your trip. I was just in northern Germany, so looks like we missed each other by less than a month. Perhaps our paths cross in Portugal during the spring? Do you have some rough idea of when you’ll make it there?
Hello Everyone!
My name is Cherie and I’m from the US (Alabama although I’ve also lived in Georgia, Indiana, and New York). I’m a mental health therapist looking to take my practice online so I can see more of the world. I love reading, photography, and people watching (but not in the creepy way). My two of my favorite places are Paris and Cuzco for entirely different reasons. I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all!
I’m Andrew, and currently living in Rio de Janeiro as of this week, after the last six months in Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Having spent extended work time in Mozambique, United Kingdom, Ghana, USA, Netherlands, and South Africa I must admit that I’m addicted to the nomadic life and along the way gained the designation as a Global Mobility Specialist, and have become an international insurance professional, representing and also now creating products.
I’m most challenged with how to adequately subdivide work and play since work can happen at all times of the day/night due to time zones in international client work.
G’day everyone, Nick here, West Ozzie, recently moved the family to Europe after getting a job in Asia, been living in the French Alps for the last 1.5 yrs and decided to head back to the beach and surf so ended up in the Algarve Portugal… what a great spot with friendly locals, great sea food and of course good weather!
I started travelling when I was 22 yrs old after my apprenticeship and basically caught the bug and never stopped (even with a family now).
Favorite spots - to many to list but I guess Gulmarg Kashmir, Mentawai’s Indonesia, Chamonix France, Kamchatka Russia, Gnaraloo/ Waroora West Oz…
Luckily my work (Instrument commissioning of large scale industrial processing facilities) also allows the opportunity to travel to far away places, currently in Kazakhstan on the Tengiz Project.
Books- haven’t read one for a while now but Shantaram was great!
Podcast - anything Joe Rogan
I came across this site after searching for info on all things Portugal for NHR, lots of Q’s to be answered with your collective help hopefully.
It’s a pleasure to join! I have been an expat since 1994 and generally have been in the US for only a couple of years in the aggregate since that time. Most of my work is in consulting on land issues while recently it has shifted to sustainable tourism. Anyway, good to be here.
